A busy February

We’ve been down here for over a month now.  Our first month down here has been extremely busy and filled with many great experiences.  Porch de Salomon has hosted 4 missions teams in that time and also we have moved to our new location in Panajachel.  Our family moved into our house and we are started to settle in.  We just got internet at our house this week so I will be posting more frequently.  Here are some pics from this busy month of ministry.

Mardi Gras is a big deal down here.  The kids on our work site had fun sprinkling us with confetti and dressing us up:)

Of course Abra and Ezra had to get in on the action too.  They made their own Mardi Gras masks.  And we went to a party that night.kids with mardi gras masks onmardi gras crowd mardi gras bandWith all the hippies in town The Mardi Gras party was pretty fun to be a part of.

We’ve also been doing two house builds in February.  The one below is in San Andres for Guadelupe and her family.  Lots of digging has been going into this project.

Our Porch de Salomon’s barbershop was also in business again this past week in San Andres.  Luckily for Guadelupe’s kids we had some other people step up to cut hair besides me like Lisa from Canada and Julio one of the Porch workers.IMG_9772 IMG_9770IMG_9757We also have been working with Sarah and her daughter Ishbalunque.  Ishbalunque is mentally and phycically disabled and is unable to walk, talk, or do much of anything.  We made some much needed improvements to Sarah’s house so that her daughter could be wheeled outside to get some much needed fresh air and sunlight.

A team of 34 from Canada split up into groups and helped us on our job sites this week.

Nick is our assistant humanitarian aid director at The Porch.  He is one of the nicest guys you’ll ever meet and this is a rare moment of him taking a break.

It is really fun getting to work with the teams that come down and serve with the porch.  We love getting to meet so many new people and learning about who they are.IMG_9639 IMG_9629

And we love getting to know the people already here.  The pic above is a team from California.  And the one below is of Linda who is a sweet Mayan lady who works for the Porch.
