Well the election is over. For better or for worse Barack Obama is our president for 4 more years. Many people are stating their opinion on social media about where they think our country is headed. I’ve seen posts ranging from, the downfall of life as we know it, to people thrilled about the next four years. I have my opinion as well which I will keep to myself but one thing is for sure we will never have a savior up on Capital Hill.
One of my favorite artists Derek Webb sings a song in the video link above that states, “we will never have a savior up on capital hill”. We all hope for change and growth in this country, but ultimately it will never come from who we elect. We the people must decide to be the change. And when I say change I don’t mean having a set of political ideals. Real change happens when we start caring for our neighbors. When we lay down our own ideals and agendas for the sake others. If you want to see a difference in our country it doesn’t start or finish with elected officials. The buck ultimately starts and stops with us. We are the hope and change the world is waiting for. My problems will not be solved by a political party. My situation will not be changed by relying on one either.
My ultimate civic duty is not to vote but to serve my neighbors. To find ways to make their lives better. Real hope and change come from a King and his Kingdom. Our first Allegiance must not be to a flag, a country, or a man, but to a King and a Kingdom.
