From Critic(Cynic) to creator

I recently read a blog post on Donald Miller’s blog that really hit home with me.  You can read it here if you want

It made me realize how cynical and critical I usually am of people.  It’s not that I wasn’t already aware of this fact but I hadn’t realized how it might be keeping me from being creative.  It’s easy to be a cynic.  It’s easy to look at people and point out there flaws or stupidity.  However, it is much more beneficial to see the beauty in people and find ways to enhance their beauty.

Conan O’Brien on his last show of Late Night on NBC gave some closing thoughts which really stuck with me.  In a moment of seriousness as he said his goodbyes to his fans he said this:

To all the people watching, I can never thank you enough for your kindness to me and I’ll think about it for the rest of my life. All I ask of you is one thing: please don’t be cynical. I hate cynicism — it’s my least favorite quality and it doesn’t lead anywhere.

Nobody in life gets exactly what they thought they were going to get. But if you work really hard and you’re kind, amazing things will happen.”

I believe his words are truth and I will attempt to live my life this way.  How about you?
